Desperate times call for desperate measures.

About 2 to 3 weeks ago, i came across this article, accounting a survivor's, a 'she', encounter of the terrorist attack at Mumbai recently.

The article wrote that when the attack came all of a sudden, the woman was still in her hotel room, unharmed and immediately contacted her kin through the phone. Her kin thn equipped her with all the necessary precautions she should take in order to protect herself if the terrorists were to barge in and assault her. I couldnt recall the exact words but one of the instructions her kin gave her was smth like this..
"...hug a pillow to shield away the bullets.."

Out of the many instructions her kin gave, I could only rmb this because i could still recall vividly how i actually laughed my heart out and joked to Adeline, who was sitting beside me on the train, how silly it is for someone to take a pillow as a bullet-proof vest!? And thn we were picturing how all soldiers would be hugging pillows to the battlefield!

But just moments ago as i am writing smth, it just dawned upon me the reason behind everything as of this incident. I finally understood why her kin told her so.

Yes, the pillow is unlikely to be bullet-proof, but it might have saved her from a gunshot somehow in a way or another we never know. When ppl are in bad situations, they dont have much choices left. They dont have the time and the resources to come up with the best solutions. And so, their only way out is to make full use of whatever resources they have, do whatever they think that might be of help to salvage the situation. So even if its just that 0.0000000000001% chance of help, they would give the shot. And most often, we would find ourselves doing things that normally seemed to be very ridiculous and nonsensical in times of bad situations.

Come to think of it, i feel kinda guilty of my ignorance then.
